The Mountain Skills (MS) training course provides a general introduction to hillwalking in Ireland and the basics of mountain navigation. Offering a solid foundation for gaining personal mountaineering proficiency, Mountain Skills training teaches the necessary skills in mountain safety, navigation techniques, knowledge of hazards, and personal equipment, so that a person finishing the course may be in a position to safely, and competently, take to the hills. Mountain Skills training and assessment also provide foundation training for those who wish to progress to further leadership qualifications, such as the Mountain Leader.

One weekend of training,2 days duration,covering map reading,contour features,navigation techniques,mountain hazards,timming and pacing and personal hillwalking kit,cost 140euro,venue The Comeraghs,This course is suitable for beginners.
Mountain Skills 2
One weekend of training, 2 days including a night navigation,covering emergency procedures,grid references,navigation techniques,compass,night navigation,and steep ground,cost 140euro,venue The Comeraghs.
After completing MS2 you will be in a position to move forward towards the Mountain Skills Assesment.
Introduction to Mountain Navigation.
A one day introductory course covering basic skills of mountain navigation cost 40euro.
Venue The Comeraghs or Knockmealdown Mountains.
Courses are delivered by a qualified Mountaineering Ireland approved Mountain Skills Trainer.
